The Green Team

Illinois State University boasts being "The Green Team". Even after the first week, I can tell the environmentally consciousness the managers have in creating sustainable operations. Some examples of transitions and changes the University is doing to help lower its impact on the environment include the following.

ISU has recently instituted trayless dining. Dining without a tray is supposed to discourage students from choosing more food than their appetite can handle to reduce waste. It also saves on water and dish soap needed to wash the multiple trays. Check out their trayless dining video!

The university also recycles their waste by using a pulp machine and selling it as compost and selling used oil to truck drivers for biodiesel fuel. Awesome!

Currently they are trying to instigate a new program of using reusable carry out containers. They are plastic, washable, and re-useable containers. The idea is that students will take the food in their plastic carry out containers and return them once finished.  Students ability to return the containers is being questioned.
